Our Aircraft

Life Flight operates within a 150 mile radius of Peoria providing an efficient, immediate, air response system serving hospitals in the North Central Illinois region. Critically ill patients will have the opportunity to be connected with a comprehensive tertiary care facility which offers outstanding medical resources.
4 twin engine IFR (instrument Flight Rules) Bell 230 helicopters, owned and operated by OSF Aviation LLC. The aircraft fly at a cruising speed of 150 miles per hour and are capable of transporting one patient, three medical crew and one pilot. The aircraft is medically configured and equipped as an ALS (Advanced Life Support) air ambulance so that all aspects of aeromedical transport may be managed by the Life Flight team.
Onboard equipment includes:
- NVG (Night Vision Goggles): The NVG's allow the pilots to see at night as if it were daylight. About 35% of all flight programs in the United States utilize night vision goggles. 35% of OSF flight program flights are done at night.
- EGPWS (Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System): Predicts and displays potential conflicts between aircraft and terrain or obstacle
- TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System): Alerts the pilot to other transponder-equipped aircraft flying in the area
- XM Satellite Weather: Allows constant, updated, high resolution weather information in the cockpit
- MFD (Multi-Functional Display): Allows the pilot to see all of the above data on one screen
